The Prime Minister Boris Johnson makes a statement in the Commons.
He said:
‘We have passed the peak of the Omicron wave.
‘The link between infection and disease is weakened.
‘We have sufficient levels of immunity to move away from Government interventions.
He sets out his ‘Living with Covid’ plan.
He said that the UK will now move to relying on vaccines and treatments to tackle Covid
From Thursday 24 February – people with a positive test will no longer need to self-isolate and routine contact tracing will end
The Prime Minister said levels of immunity are high – and that’s why the restrictions can be lifted now.
He added that testing on a mass scale is much less important with the Omicron variant.
He said ‘we don’t need laws to make people be considerate to others.’
- Remove all restrictions in law from 24 February
- Ending self-isolation
- End contract tracing
- Remove need for close contacts to self-isolate.
