Police officers successfully chased down and arrested two bike-riding burglary suspects in Newark.

Response and Operational Support officers combined to capture the duo after they darted in opposite directions.

Neither got far though, with officers from the response and Armed Policing teams splitting up and detaining one each shortly afterwards.

The Armed Policing team discovered a bag of tools on one of the individuals, as well as a tree saw reportedly stolen from the shed in Hill Vue Gardens.

Response officers, meanwhile, recovered a folding knife, a pair of gloves, and quantities of cannabis, from the other suspect.

Two 17-year-old boys were subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted burglary with intent to steal.

One of the suspects was additionally arrested for possessing a bladed article in public and possessing Class B drugs.

Detective Sergeant Elina Falcon, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“All the officers involved here did a great job, firstly in linking these incidents and then acting on this information.

“The policing teams used their local knowledge of the area to quickly establish this link and get to the location of the attempted break-ins so fast.

“They then showed some great policing instincts to identify a pair of suspects on bikes, before demonstrating a turn of pace too, when they both tried to flee.

“This was a great example of our different teams – in this case response and Armed Policing – working together to achieve a positive result.”
