A stolen van containing dozens of Christmas presents was quickly recovered and two suspects arrested after police in Worksop tracked them down.
Police were called shortly after 11.30am on Monday (22 December) when an Amazon delivery van full of parcels was reported missing from Kilton Hill.
Local officers used the van’s onboard tracker to trace it, and a pursuit commenced down the A1 towards Newark.
Automatic number plate recognition cameras also captured a Peugeot van that appeared to be travelling in convoy with the delivery van.
Once the team arrived in Newark, they located a vehicle matching the Amazon van’s description abandoned in Kings Road, with all parcels in tow.
Following a search of the local vicinity, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle and burglary.
The accompanying Peugeot van was then followed to Tolney Lane, where a 24-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle and burglary.
They have since been released on police bail as the investigation continues.
Sergeant Mark Talbot, of the Bassetlaw neighbourhood policing team, said:
“Officers responding to this incident did a fantastic job to make it happen, using a range of methods to not only recover the stolen van, but detain two suspects.
“We’re also glad we managed to track down the missing parcels just in time for Christmas.
“Vehicle theft is a very serious offence that can cause all sorts of problems to car or van owners, including impacting their livelihoods, so we were pleased to take action in this case.”
