A former farm shop damaged by a fire could be redeveloped into new homes after plans were submitted to the council.
The former Gonalston Farm shop site, which closed in 2022, could be redeveloped into three homes and garages after proposals were submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council on Tuesday (January 6).
The farm shop was damaged by a fire in the early hours of September 12, 2022.
Mr and Mrs Mason, who were the operators of the farm shop, are behind the plans, which would involve three new detached homes being built on the site.
Planning documents show a garage structure would run through where the damaged farm shop sits and says the style it is “a local feature with such traditional farmsteads”.
Proposals also state how the new buildings have been ‘considered’ within the context of the boutique bed and breakfast next door – what was the original farmhouse – and another agricultural building, so to “preserve the agricultural character of the site and wider landscape”.
Planning documents say: “The substantial building structure remains – and our clients have spent a great deal of time thinking about its future and an appropriate re-use, having been approached by various operators and developers given (no doubt) the site’s prominent roadside position.”
Documents also state the new homes and garaging would be “a not inappropriate” development within the green belt as they would be built on previously-developed land and would help the councils housing need.
The council will decide on these plans at a further date.
