£170,000 cannabis factory found in detached house after police raid

A suspect has been arrested after officers executed a warrant at a suspected drug factory in Mansfield.

Response officers attended an address on Little Carter Lane at midday on Monday 20 April after receiving multiple intelligence reports.

Inside, officers found more than 170 cannabis plants spread across multiple rooms of the detached property, which had been extensively modified for the purpose of producing drugs.

Dangerous alterations had also been made to bypass the property’s electricity meter.

A 27-year-old man who was found inside the address was arrested.

All of the plants have since been seized and all growing equipment rendered unusable.

Rimvydas Svetlovas, aged 27, of Little Carter Lane, has been charged with cultivating cannabis.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 19 May.

Sergeant Scott Loughran, of the Mansfield Rota 3 response team, said:

“These makeshift drug factories — almost always located in private rented homes — are also extremely dangerous to neighbouring properties because of the fire risk they pose.

“That’s why tackling drug-related crime remains a key local priority, and why it’s so important for members of the public to play their part by reporting their suspicions to us.

“We will listen, and we will act.”
