Appeal launched following five break-ins over weekend

Detectives investigating a burglary spree in Newark over the weekend are appealing for witnesses.

This follows intruders targeting five separate properties during break-ins that police believe could be linked.

Glass windows were smashed to gain access to each address – most of which were owned by vulnerable people.

Three of the break-ins happened on Saturday (10 January), starting with a house in Hill Vue Gardens in the early hours.

Nothing was ultimately taken during that 1.40am burglary, after the elderly occupants of the house confronted a suspect.

Two more break-ins were then reported later that same day at properties in Hawton Road and Parkway.

Cash was stolen from Hawton Road sometime between 4.15pm and 5.55pm, while jewellery was taken from Parkway between 10.45am and 5.50pm.

More jewellery was then taken from a different property in Hawton Road the following day (11 January), at some point between 12.20pm and 2.30pm.

An elderly woman was also assaulted around the same time – at 2pm – after disrupting an ongoing burglary at her home in Bowbridge Road.

Having smashed a window to gain access, an intruder fled from the scene empty-handed after being disturbed by the homeowner.

All five burglaries are being investigated by a team of detectives who are now appealing for anyone who has any information to share it immediately.

Detective Sergeant James Hirst, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“I can only imagine how horrible it must have been for the victims to realise their homes had been burgled.

“That will have been doubly true for those who interrupted the break-ins while they were in progress, with one woman sadly being assaulted in the process.

“It really should go without saying, but this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we are determined to track down whoever was responsible.

“Our team of detectives is in the process of investigating these burglaries and, at this stage, believe they could be linked.

“As such, we ask that anyone who thinks they might know who could have been involved shares this information with the police.

“We also want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have witnessed any of the incidents or inadvertently recorded them taking place on CCTV or doorbell cameras.”

Information can be shared directly with the police, quoting incident 294 of 11 January 2026, while Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
