On 26 January police officers from the local safer neighbourhood team were joined by officers from the Roads Policing Team and the Vehicle Examination Team for an operation to target drivers committing moving traffic offences.
35 vehicles were stopped in two and a half hours and out of those, 21 tickets were issued and two were seized for no insurance and driving whilst disqualified. 19 of the tickets issued were because the driver was caught using their mobile phone whilst driving. This operation was set up in line with one of our new quarterly priorities; Partnership work supporting road safety.

Neighbourhood Investigation Officer Statham said:
“One of our priorities published in January this year was partnership work supporting road safety.
“We have and continue to proactively target motor vehicles that fail to meet legal standards and put people at risk.

“Our joint operation yesterday has proved to be successful and a sadly many tickets issued were all for the fatal four which are the four main preventable causes of serious injury and death on the roads.

“Using a mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and drink / drug driving will not be tolerated on the roads, and we will continue to stop drivers that break the law”.
