New aerial images show the scale of progress on the long-awaited Waterside Bridge ahead of its planned opening this summer.
The pedestrian and cycle bridge, which will link the north and south banks of the River Trent, is now nearing completion, with an opening date of 2 June confirmed. The structure is a key part of wider regeneration plans in the Waterside area and has been designed to improve connections between residential neighbourhoods, green spaces and the city centre.

The latest drone photographs capture the bridge deck in place and final works progressing on access routes and landscaping at either end. The scheme has been under construction for several months, with significant milestones including the installation of the main span across the river and the creation of new approach paths for walkers and cyclists.

Once open, the bridge is expected to provide a direct, traffic-free route across the Trent, making it easier for people to travel between communities on either side of the river. It will also form part of a wider active travel network, supporting walking and cycling while reducing reliance on car journeys for short trips.

The project has been led by Nottingham City Council, working with partners to deliver improved infrastructure in the Waterside area. Previous updates have highlighted the bridge as a central feature of plans to unlock new housing and encourage sustainable travel in one of the city’s major development zones.
