Updates: 30 homes evacuated after major gas mains leak

Five fire crews are at the scene of a major gas leak.

‘We’re pleased to report that we have assisted Cadent and have been able to isolate the gas. Residents will start returning to their properties imminently and emergency service crews will be leaving the scene shortly. ‘

‘We still have five fire engines on scene at the gas leak on Tevery Close, Stapleford. We’re now joined by Nottinghamshire Police, Environment Agency and Cadent Gas who are helping us resolve the incident.

‘Around 30 properties have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. No injuries have been reported.

‘There has been some speculation on social media around this being an explosion – we can confirm that this is a gas leak, and all agencies at the scene are working hard to resolve it as effectively and efficiently as possible. We ask that people continue to avoid the area – thank you.’

‘We’ve currently got fire engines from Stapleford Fire Station, Stockhill Fire Station and colleagues from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service at an incident on Tevery Close, Stapleford.

‘We understand a gas main has burst and residents in the nearby area are being evacuated, as a precaution, whilst this is dealt with. Please avoid the area until this is resolved.’
