A man who punched, kicked and choked a woman at his home has been jailed.
Clifton Patterson, aged 67, launched an unprovoked attack in Hyson Green in the early hours of 9 June last year after returning from a night out in Nottingham.
Patterson struck the woman on the head as she lay in bed, before throwing her around the room, holding her by the throat and repeatedly punching and kicking her.
The victim, aged in her 40s, managed to get out of the address and call the police.
Patterson, of Biko Square, Hyson Green, was arrested and taken into custody, where he gave no‑comment answers to questions posed by officers.
He later pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday 23 April, Patterson was jailed for 16 months.
PC Kai Monachello, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was an extremely violent and wholly unprovoked attack that understandably left an innocent victim in fear of her life.
“She was unable to defend herself against someone far bigger and stronger than her, and was fortunate to avoid more serious injury, given the manner of the assault.
“I am extremely pleased Patterson has now been jailed, this case serves as a strong warning to others about the serious consequences of violence against women and girls.
“I would like to commend the bravery the victim has demonstrated by standing up to domestic abuse and making her report”
