A persistent police dog put aside a brief sense of disappointment as he tracked, chased and detained a fleeing burglary suspect.
PD Seth and his handler were on routine patrol on Saturday 25 April when they intercepted a stolen car on an industrial estate.
The driver got out of the vehicle but refused an instruction to stand still – choosing instead to bolt from the scene and clamber over a ten-foot metal fence.
Deciding it would not be safe to deploy his dog against a suspect who was so high off the ground, PC Chris Phillips instead turned to Seth’s exceptional nose.
After a prolonged trek along a series of alleyways and footpaths, Seth was released to chase down and detain the suspect.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taking a vehicle without consent. The car had been stolen earlier in the day from an address in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
PD Seth, a prolific Belgian Malinois, made national headlines at the end of last year when he found a suspect hiding in a wheelie bin in similar circumstances.
Only last week, he helped to locate another suspect after tracking him from a parked car.
Inspector Tim Ringer, in charge of dog policing, said:
“Seth is a truly outstanding police dog who – together with his handler – forms an exceptional crime-fighting duo.
“He excels in all the key disciplines of canine policing and is pretty much the last dog you’d want on your trail in situations like this.
“As yet another suspect has found out to his cost, he never gives up and absolutely loves a challenge.”
