Face painting, Lego bridge building and cycling at Waterside Bridge fun day

A free community fun day will be held to celebrate the new Waterside Bridge later this month.

The Waterside Bridge Community Celebration takes place on Sunday, June 14, from 10am to 4pm, with activities planned on both the north and south sides of the bridge.

The event is free to attend and will include face painting, children’s inflatables, crafts and colouring, entertainment, food and drink stalls, and appearances from Robin Hood.

Families will also be able to take part in bridge and nature-themed activities throughout the day.

One of the main activities will invite visitors to build a bridge using Lego. People can take part just for fun, or enter their creation to be judged, with prizes available. Judging will take place at 12 noon, 2pm and 3.30pm.

There will also be sporting activities, including rugby sessions covering ladies’ rugby, children’s rugby and tag rugby.

British Cycling will be running cycling activities for children and adults, with bikes and helmets available for people to use.

Cyclists are also being encouraged to bring their own bikes along, with Dr Bike attending the event to carry out minor repairs free of charge.

Food and drink will be available during the day, including ice cream, and a range of stalls will be run by local partner organisations.

The celebration has been organised to mark the opening of the new Waterside Bridge, which provides a new crossing over the River Trent and forms part of wider work to improve walking and cycling links in the area.

The event is funded by the UK Government and supported by Nottingham City Council.
