Police recover large knife left in Sneinton green space

Police recovered a knife from an area of vegetation in Sneinton after pursuing a suspect through a park.

Officers from the knife crime team observed a youth walking into St Mary’s Rest Garden, Sneinton, while on patrol at 3.30pm on Thursday (4 June).

Police say that when approached by uniformed members of the team, he ran but was quickly detained by other officers who had covered a potential escape route.

Following a search of vegetation close by, officers found a large knife.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with possession of a knife in a public place.

He is expected to appear before magistrates in Nottingham on 16 June 2026.

Inspector Steve Dalby, neighbourhood policing inspector for City South, said:

“Officers were in the right place at the right time to detain this suspected knife carrier and used their local knowledge to make the arrest.

“Knife carriers will often look to discard a weapon when they are approached by us, with no regard whatsoever to who might later find it.

“Officers working across City South are continuing to patrol the area’s parks and open spaces to tackle drug dealing, weapons carrying and other offences.

“We’d urge anyone aware of criminality taking place in their neighbourhood to let us know so we can take appropriate action.”
