A man is due in court after police found a large knife hidden inside a sock in Nottingham city centre.
Police officers were alerted shortly after 3 am on Tuesday (1 September) following reports that a man had been seen carrying a knife.
A spokesperson said:
‘The information was initially passed to security staff at a bar in Thurland Street before being relayed to Nottingham City Council’s CCTV control centre.
‘CCTV operators monitored the suspect’s movements and provided updates to our officers.
‘A short time later,they located the suspect at the junction of Carlton Street and George Street, in the Hockley area, and carried out a stop and search.
‘During the search, a large knife was recovered from the man’s sock.
‘Kurtis Swinscoe, of Shakespeare Street, Nottingham, has been charged with possession of a knife blade in a public place.
‘The 27-year-old has been bailed with conditions and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.’
Chief Inspector Kylie Davies said: “Carrying a knife in public is completely unacceptable and we will always take robust action when concerns are reported to us.
“Thanks to information shared by security staff and CCTV operators, officers were able to quickly locate this suspect and carry out a search, which resulted in a large knife being recovered.
“We are pleased a suspect has been charged and would continue to urge anyone with information about knife crime or weapons-related offending to contact the police.”
