27 fire crews attend Barton in Fabis blaze as firefighters remain at scene

A total of 27 fire crews have attended a rubbish fire in Barton in Fabis since yesterday afternoon, with firefighters still at the scene today.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire on Barton Lane at 3.13pm on 16 September.

The service has confirmed that a pile of rubbish was well alight and the fire had started to spread.

Crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have assisted with the response, with specialist rescue vehicles also attending since the incident began.

Firefighters from London Road, Stockhill and Ilkeston fire stations remain at the scene.

During the initial response, the fire service said its Joint Fire Control was receiving a high volume of calls about the blaze.

People affected by smoke were advised to keep doors and windows closed. The service also urged the public to stay away from the incident and not to fly drones overhead.
