Police said that the incident has been safely resolved and residents are able to return to their properties.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is being questioned by police.
Police said: ‘Our enquiries are at an early stage and we thank local residents for their patience and understanding.

‘At 7.51am we were called to an address in Westdale Road, Jacksdale, after a suspicious package was discovered outside.
‘Out of caution, our officers have evacuated nearby properties pending further investigations by explosive ordinance disposal engineers.
‘Residents affected by the evacuation can go to Jacksdale Garden Centre, which has been made available as a place of safety.
‘We’d like to thank local residents for their cooperation and assure them that we are working to resolve the situation as efficiently and safely as possible.’
