Storm Boelo: Nottinghamshire included in weekend 65 mph wind warning

Nottinghamshire is included in a Met Office yellow warning for strong winds as Storm Boelo brings unsettled weather this weekend.

The warning runs from midday on Saturday 24 October until 9pm on Sunday 25 October.

Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire are listed among the affected areas. The Met Office updated the warning on Friday, bringing its start time forward and extending the area further south.

Across the wider warning area, gusts of 55–65 mph are expected widely. Some coastal and exposed locations could experience 70–80 mph or more, with the strongest gusts most likely in Scotland and the far north of England.

Strong winds will spread across northern parts of the UK on Saturday afternoon alongside spells of heavy rain. Initially southerly winds will affect parts of Scotland, before stronger and more widespread westerly winds develop later on Saturday.

Very windy conditions are expected to continue overnight and through much of Sunday, gradually easing from the south-west later.

The Met Office warns of possible travel disruption, power cuts and damage to buildings and trees. Flying debris could cause injuries, while some roads and bridges may close.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items, prepare for possible power cuts and check travel conditions and local forecasts before setting out.
