A cigarette box full of cocaine deals was found when police pulled over a car.
Firearms officers were out on patrol in Old Basford when they received reports of drug activity.
Believing a Volkswagen Golf could be involved, police started searching for it in the early hours of Tuesday (3 November).
Within a few minutes – at 1.45am – the Armed Policing team spotted a vehicle matching its description at a petrol station.
Based on this, officers stopped the car in David Lane, before detaining the man inside and conducting a search of the vehicle.
This quickly resulted in a cigarette box being seized from the driver’s door pocket that had several deal bags of cocaine inside it.
A leather bag was then discovered under the driver’s seat too that, when searched, was found to contain even more of the drugs.
Police at that point arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class A drugs.
When a roadside drugs wipe was then carried out and it tested positive for traces of cocaine, the suspect was further arrested for drug-driving.
Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a great example of the value our police patrols can provide – at all hours of the day or night.
“In this case, our firearms officers were in the right place at the right time to notice a car following reports of drug activity.
“That wasn’t the only good spot, however, with multiple deal bags of cocaine then found inside a cigarette box and a bag when the vehicle was searched.
“Cracking down on drugs supply remains one of our policing priorities as a force, so this proved itself to be a good job for our Armed Policing team.”
