Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council(RBC) Cllr Neil Clarke has called for the suspension of the current A52 roadworks in the Borough given their severe impact on local residents and businesses.
Whilst not RBC or County Council controlled works, he has written to the Secretary of State, the local MP, Leader of the County Council and National Highways on their impact and offered his support to find a better way to complete the works.
He said: “This morning I wrote to the Secretary of State for Transport, National Highways, our MP James Naish and the County Council leader, to request that the works on the A52 be suspended.
“The disruption of the congestion that has now been described by many people around the Borough is just absolutely unacceptable. People can’t get to work, they can’t get their kids to school.
“They can’t get to hospital and doctor’s appointments and everything else that happens in day to day life, and of course the delays to our businesses in Rushcliffe.
“I’ve asked them to suspend operations immediately, have a review of the method of operations, and I’m quite happy to be part of that to help them so they know what happens locally.
“This can’t be allowed to continue as it is. They’ve got to find a different way of carrying out these roadworks and we’re here to try and help them find that different way.”
The Wire contacted National Highways today and expects a response by end of the day.
Rushcliffe MP James Naish meets with National Highways tomorrow.
