Nottingham has secured £3 million of government funding to help transform vacant and derelict buildings, supporting the city’s long-term Nottingham Vision for growth, regeneration and stronger communities.
Along with other councils, Nottingham is to receive the highest allocation of £3m.
The investment will support the delivery of the Nottingham Vision, which sets out a shared long-term ambition for a safer, cleaner and greener more prosperous city.
Funding can be used to support the acquisition, restoration and repurposing of long-term vacant buildings, including shops, offices, heritage buildings, pubs, theatres and cinemas. This will create more attractive places to live, work and visit, and support lasting improvements for local communities.
Working with residents, businesses and partners, Nottingham City Council will now begin identifying potential projects that could benefit from the funding, ensuring investment is focused on buildings and locations where it can have the greatest impact on communities and local pride.
Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of the Council, said: “This £3 million investment is a significant opportunity for Nottingham. Across the city there are buildings with the potential to contribute much more to our communities, economy and neighbourhoods. Too often, long-term vacant buildings can have a negative impact on people’s perception of an area and hold back wider regeneration.
“This funding will help bring empty buildings back into use in ways that support the Nottingham Vision. This will give a new lease of life to our high streets and neighbourhoods, making better use of Nottingham’s historic buildings and unique character, this is an opportunity to build on what makes our city special while creating new opportunities for the future.”
“By working closely with communities and partners, we can identify projects that not only tackle empty buildings but also create lasting benefits for residents, businesses and future generations.”
Further details on potential projects and community engagement activity will be announced.
