Police officers and local residents helped return a donkey and a horse to their field after the animals escaped onto a country road near Orston.
Officers from Rushcliffe’s Response and Neighbourhood Policing teams were called to an unlit road on Tuesday (3 November) after the two animals managed to get out of a nearby field.
Police said the horse and donkey may have been attracted by grass growing along the roadside.
Local residents helped contact the owner of the field, while officers and another resident assisted in getting both animals back into a secure area.
The point where the animals had escaped was also identified so that repairs could be carried out in daylight.
The incident was among several dealt with by Rushcliffe officers during the first part of the week.
On Monday (2 November), officers dealt with three separate shop theft cases.
One man was sentenced to 55 weeks in prison after admitting 12 theft offences relating to a store in West Bridgford and a racially aggravated public order offence against a police sergeant.
The man had been arrested in Nottingham city centre after running away from officers taking part in Operation Reclaim patrols.
Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing officers dealt with the case in custody, and the defendant was remanded to appear before a court.
He pleaded guilty to all 13 offences and was sentenced to 55 weeks in prison. He was also ordered to pay £187 in compensation.
In a separate case, Rushcliffe Response officers dealt with a suspect who was charged with five shop theft offences and is due to appear in court on 3 December 2026.
A third suspect, who was stopped by store staff before being arrested by response officers, was charged with one shop theft offence and is also due to appear in court on 3 December.
Elsewhere, a police community support officer carrying out anti-social behaviour patrols in Keyworth investigated a vehicle that had been left in suspicious circumstances.

Checks established that the vehicle did not have a valid vehicle excise licence, and it was removed under Operation Cubit.
