A coffin, a jukebox – and now a full-sized toy bear found on Nottinghamshire town’s Spring Clean

A Councillor for Sutton Central and East on Ashfield District Council is used to reporting in dumped items like fridges, couches and shopping trolleys.

He received an usual request though today, someone has dumped a full size bear outfit on St Michael’s Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Councillor David Hennigan has now asked Ashfield District Council to pick it up and see whether it can be rescued and given to a good cause.

Councillor Hennigan said, “On a recent Spring Clean – someone had a full sized coffin picked up.

“On another – a jukebox was collected.  A full sized bear outfit is a first however., I have asked the Council to collect it and see if it can be donated to a group like the Ashfield Play Forum.

“Before the pandemic, I regularly dressed in bear and other outfits to help Ashfield Play Forum with their fun days.

“I don’t recognise this one but dumping it is not on.  In fact – it’s bear-faced cheek.  I would ask residents to get in touch with us if they have any information that may lead to identifying the culprit who dumped it.

“I would ask residents to PAWS and think twice before fly-tipping anything.”

St Michael’s Street is seen as a hotspot for dumping.  Recently, a resident was fined £400 for dumping a couch on the terraced street.

Councillor Hennigan said, “St Michael’s Street has issues with dumping.  People are FURever dumping here.

“People fly-tipping stops the Council from being able to do the BEAR necessities.

As local councillors, Samantha Deakin and I are continually having to report issues there.  This has a lot to do with the transiency of the New Cross and Sutton area.  Government rules on HMOs (houses of multiple occupancy) means that the Council has no power to stop planning applications for 6 rooms is less.  This is contributing to the problem.”
