A42 closed from M1 and A453 – car hit lamppost and barrier – diversion

The A42 southbound between M1 at J23a and the A453/J14 is currently closed due to a collision.

This also includes the link road from the A453 Finger Farm Roundabout onto the M1 southbound at J23a and also onto the A42.

The road has been closed due to a collision involving a car which has struck a lamppost and barrier. Recovery is underway however and further resources are en route to assess and repair the damage. The road will remain closed until this work is complete.

Diversion route

Road users are advised to access the M1 at J24 and follow the below route, when joining local roads the solid diamond diversion symbol will be visible on local road signs.
  • Continue southbound on the M1 towards J23
  • Exit the motorway at M1 Junction 23, taking the third exit onto the A512 westbound.
  • Continue westbound on the A512 passing through Shepshed and Coleorton through to the A42 J13 at Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
  • At A42 J13 take the first exit onto the A42 southbound.
  • If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.
