Advance work is due to begin on Monday 23 February on planned improvements to the Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft junctions on the A52.
The scheme will see both existing roundabouts redesigned into so-called “through-abouts”, allowing drivers to travel straight through the junction rather than circulating around a traditional roundabout. The change is intended to improve traffic flow, provide smoother journeys and reduce congestion on one of Nottingham’s busiest commuter routes.

To prepare for the new layouts, vegetation on and around the current roundabouts will need to be removed. Project teams say ecology surveys have been carried out in recent weeks and that mitigation measures for protected species have been put in place ahead of the start of work.
Overnight lane closures will be used to carry out the advance works. These will operate between 8pm and 6am from Monday 23 February until Friday 13 March 2026. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys during these periods.
A temporary construction compound will also be established on privately owned land off the A52 between the two junctions. This will serve as the main site compound once full construction gets under way later in 2026.
In addition, temporary boundary fencing will be installed around land included within the Compulsory Purchase Order for the scheme. This work is not expected to affect the road network or road users.
The advance works mark the first visible stage of a wider project aimed at tackling congestion and improving capacity at the two key junctions on the A52 corridor.
