Detectives are appealing for the public’s help after a high-value burglary in Newark where a couple’s engagement rings were stolen.
The incident happened in Halliwell Close, sometime between Wednesday 16 April to Monday 21 April, while the occupants were on holiday.
Officers are carrying out a number of lines of inquiry to track those responsible including forensics, CCTV work and house to house inquiries.
They are also releasing pictures of the stolen jewellery in the hope that someone in the community has seen them or been approached to buy them.
Items stolen from the property include two engagement rings, other gold jewellery including a gold chain and diamond gold ring, a Rolex watch, two Tag Heuer watches, an Xbox with 10 games, a laptop and HP Notebook.
Detective Constable Liam O’Kane, who is investigating the incident, said:
“This has understandably caused a great deal of distress to the occupants.
“Burglars have broken into their home and stolen treasured pieces of jewellery which hold lots of sentimental value.
“Burglary is a callous and despicable crime and that is why we take all reports extremely seriously. We are doing everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.
“Today, we are appealing for the public’s help.
“We have released pictures of the family jewellery in the hope that the public will help assist us with our investigation.
“Have you seen these pieces of jewellery? Were you approached by anyone trying to sell you these items? Have you bought these items of jewellery?
“The same goes for the items stolen from the property. Do you know of someone in the community who has tried to sell you any of these items listed?
“Any help with our investigation would be much appreciated to ensure we get justice for the family affected by this deeply upsetting crime.”
