A man was arrested shortly after a burglary was reported in Wollaton.
Police were called after a house in Charlbury Road was broken into shortly before 11am on Thursday (21 August), with a television stolen.
The caller provided a description and police response officers immediately began a search.
During the search, another member of the public told officers a man matching the description of the burglary offender had got into a black Mercedes car at the end of Woodyard Lane and then drove off.
Another member of the public was able to provide the first part of the registration plate and following further accounts and CCTV checks, the full registration number was established.
Officers found the vehicle in Manton Crescent a short time later and it failed to stop.
A pursuit saw the suspect drive through the nearby University Park Campus before abandoning the car in one of its car parks.
He then fled on an e-scooter but was soon detained in Woodside Close.
The 38-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, failing to stop when required by a constable, driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.
He was also arrested for possession of a Class B drug, after cannabis was found on him.
Whilst in custody, he was further arrested for failing to stop at the scene of an accident after it emerged a child was reversed into at low speed prior to officers managing to find the car. Thankfully the child was not seriously injured.
The suspect remains in custody for questioning.
A 68-year-old woman also remains in custody having been arrested on suspicion on assisting an offender.
Detective Constable Malachi Keane, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Thanks to the quick work by officers, we were able to arrest a suspect just two hours after the burglary was reported.
“We were greatly assisted by members of the public and I’d like to thank them for the role they played in helping us locate the suspect.
“Burglary is an upsetting crime, especially when victims come face-to-face with alleged offenders. When incidents like this happen we will always act swiftly and work hard to find those responsible.
“I hope the speed of these arrests provides some reassurance to the local community and demonstrates how seriously we treat reports of burglary which can have a long-lasting impact on victims. We will always do everything we can to investigate, pursue and catch suspects, and keep the public safe from harm.”
