The Prime Minister Liz Truss appeared outside Downing Street just after 1:30 pm today 20 October 2022 and issued this statement.
Earlier this morning Liz Truss requested a meeting with the Chairman of the 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady.
The Prime Minister said:
‘We delivered on energy bills and National Insurance.
She said she can’t deliver the mandate that Tory members elected her on and therefore she is standing down.
She remains Prime Minister until as successor is chosen.
There will be a leadership contest completed within the next week, she said.
