Bulwell man to be sentenced after crack cocaine discovery in Newark

A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody after admitting drugs offences following an arrest in Newark.

Edmund Mhembere, of Naomi Crescent, Bulwell, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday 23 January to possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and possessing Class B drugs. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 13 February.

Police said officers encountered Mhembere in a stationary car with its engine running on Mather Road, Newark, on the morning of Thursday 22 January. After officers approached the vehicle, quantities of cannabis were found, and he was arrested and taken to custody for further searches.

While being transported, Mhembere was seen to throw a mobile phone over a wall, which officers retrieved. A subsequent search in custody led to the discovery of around 50 wraps of crack cocaine concealed under his clothing.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said the investigation involved neighbourhood officers and specialist teams, leading to the charges being brought.
