Burglar arrested at airport jailed for 12 months

A burglar who was arrested at an airport moments after arriving from Jamaica has swapped sunshine for a prison cell.

Nottinghamshire Police officers soon had Kieron Kennerdale in cuffs after being alerted the 36-year-old was returning to Gatwick Airport on Tuesday (9 December).

He has now been locked up and will be spending Christmas behind bars after pleading guilty to burgling a flat in Clifton.

After smashing a window to gain entry into the address, off Southchurch Drive, he asked the occupant where the money was before taking a quantity of cash.

The victim wasn’t injured during the incident which happened during the early hours of 18 July 2025.

Kennerdale, formerly of Dovenby Road, Clifton, was forensically linked to the crime after blood left at the scene was tested and came back as a match for him.

He was jailed for 12 months when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on Wednesday (10 December 2025).

Detective Constable Kacper Roman, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Kennerdale is a prolific offender whose criminal history clearly shows he has no respect for authority or the justice system.

“After carrying out this burglary he fled the country to Jamaica, with no return flight booked, on 29 July.

“Burglaries are a deeply invasive crime and can be extremely upsetting for victims.

“We are determined to do everything in our power to protect people and to put offenders before the courts at the earliest opportunity to ensure they are held accountable for their criminality.”
