A burglar has been jailed after police responded within minutes to a break-in and caught him red-handed.
A couple were watching television at their home in Forest Road West, Hyson Green, Nottingham, on 2 November 2024 when they spotted a shadow outside their living room window.
After hearing noises the victims ran from the flat and called police.
Ramzi Adam was still inside the property when officers arrived at the scene moments later.
Response officers found Adam trying to climb out of a bathroom window and he was arrested.
He was in possession of a hammer and three mobile phones – two of which belonged to the occupants of the home.
The 22-year-old, of Manston Mews, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for 18 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (25 March).
Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We are grateful to the victims for immediately calling 999.
“Their alertness, combined with the speed of the police response, allowed us to catch this burglar in the act.
“Discovering an intruder on your property is a deeply upsetting experience.
“We understand the lasting impact it can have on victims and that is why the force has teams of detectives investigating break-ins and bringing burglars to justice.”
