Burglar denies stealing TV

A burglar brazenly carried a large television he’d just stolen down the street in broad daylight.

Kirk Bradley was pictured on CCTV hauling a smart TV down a street in Sherwood at 10.30 in the morning.

The high-value TV didn’t belong to him however but had just been stolen from a nearby house moments earlier.

Bradley invited himself into a home in Melrose Street, before taking hundreds of pounds worth of electrical items.

These included a PlayStation 4, an Xbox, two smart phones and the LG smart 4k TV he was then pictured carrying.

Police were able to identify Bradley from the footage, while one of his fingerprints was also found near the back door where he broke in.

Despite the mounting evidence against him, the 34-year-old denied stealing the TV on 21 September 2022 – instead insisting he’d bought it from a friend.

Bradley maintained this lie for nearly three years, right up until the eve of his trial this August, when he finally decided to plead guilty to burglary.

Following this admission, he reappeared before Nottingham Crown Court to be sentenced on Friday (7 November).

Bradley, of Clipstone Road West, Forest Town, received an 18 month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and to pay a victim surcharge.

Detective Constable Richard Evans, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“While he may have technically pleaded guilty to this burglary, Bradley only did so after years of denying he’d done anything wrong.

“Despite CCTV footage clearly showing him carrying a large TV he’d just stolen down the street, he always claimed he’d bought it from a friend.

“This was all a lie, with Bradley instead helping himself to hundreds of pounds worth of electrical items after breaking into a nearby property.

“In addition to the footage of him brazenly carrying the TV down the road, we were also able to connect him to the offence through a fingerprint he left at the scene.

“While a lot of time has passed since this offence happened, it’s pleasing to see Bradley has now been sentenced, which we hope this will provide some small degree of comfort to the victim of this break-in.”
