A footpath level crossing in Nottinghamshire has been closed by Network Rail.
Network Rail requested the emergency closure of Chestnut Grove level crossing in Burton Joyce on the Nottingham to Lincoln Line – which has been granted by Nottinghamshire County Council – following a fatality on Wednesday evening.
Mark Budden, Network Rail’s route director, East Midlands, said: “Our immediate thoughts are with the family and friends that have been affected by this tragic incident.
“Safety is our top priority and we are fully supporting the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) as part of their ongoing enquiries.”
The emergency closure is in place for 21 days initially.
