Chilwell: Three charged after shopkeeper threatened with firearm

Detectives investigating a violent raid on a Chilwell convenience store have now charged three men with robbery.

Officers were called to a shop in Barn Croft, Chilwell, after reports a group of men had threatened a shopkeeper with weapons and stolen a large amount of cigarettes.

The victim, a man aged in his seventies, sustained minor injuries during the incident, which took place at around 7.40 pm on Saturday 23 September 2023.

Twenty-three-year-old Jack Weston, of Leicester, was arrested on Wednesday (10 January) and has been charged with robbery.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (11 January) and was remanded in custody until 8 February 2024.

It was reported a knife and suspected firearm were used during the incident.

Callum Groves, aged 25, of Leicester, and 28-year-old Joshua Woods, of Chilcombe Walk, Leicester, have previously appeared before magistrates charged with robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent and threats with a blade in relation to the incident.

Woods has also been charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis.

They both appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday and were remanded in custody until 9 February 2024.

Detective Sergeant Nathan Bingham, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We understand the impact robberies like this can have on hard-working shop staff and our detectives have been working hard to get justice for the victim.

“I am pleased we have now charged three men in relation to this offence and hope our robust response provides reassurance to the victim and wider community.”
