A new community coffee shop in West Bridgford has chosen to supply customers with the Switch Up charity coffee roast from renowned Nottingham roasters 200 Degrees Coffee.
Lutterell Hall, and Thraves, is holding an open day on Saturday 8 April with an amazing time planned with lots of stalls, inflatables, fun activities for the kids, food trucks and entertainment.
There will also be performances on stage from 11.30 am
And to top it all off they’re all also launching a not-for-profit coffee lounge called Thraves
Named after the architect of the hall—John Alfred Thraves, the brand new Coffee Lounge and Bar is open to serve the community from Tuesday to Friday, between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm.
Mr Thraves was based in Nottingham and specialised in cinema design.
He served in the first and second world wars as a private in the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry and was a Special Constable in Nottinghamshire.
In 1943 he was appointed a housing consultant to the Ministry of Health.
He was born in 1888 and died at The Turrett in Stanton on the Wolds in 1953 and the venue acknowledges and honours his life of service and contribution to our town, city and country.
Community and people are a passion of Lutterell Hall and we are delighted to be working with 200 Degrees to bring you their sought-after speciality coffee.
This speciality grade coffee showcases the work of women farmers across Guatemala in support of gender equality and a donation of £1 is made directly to Switch Up for every kilo of coffee sold.
Launched in November 2022, the Switch Up house roast from the 200 Degrees brand was launched to signify the start of a three-year partnership.
For every kilo of coffee sold, £1 is donated to the charity, with a minimum commitment of £10,000 per year.
The story behind the Switch Up charity coffee caught the attention of coffee shop supervisor, Oliver Boothright, who had been on the hunt for a more meaningful and unique product to serve at Thraves coffee lounge and bar.
Located inside Lutterell Hall – a Grade II listed community space in West Bridgford – Oliver and the hall’s team have been working to revamp the coffee shop area.
Oliver said: “Having been a long-term drinker of coffee and after completing barista training at 200 Degrees, I was excited to hear about the Switch Up coffee. I wanted to serve something to customers that not only tasted great but had a unique selling point.
“The feedback from customers was so positive from day one. The coffee is ideal – it is roasted just down the road and supports a charity that helps so many from across the city. It will be a great talking point for us to have with customers and allow us to share the incredible work Switch Up does.”
Thraves will be relaunching with a new look and feel to the venue as well as the Switch Up coffee on Saturday 8 April – Easter weekend.
Marcellus Baz BEM, Switch Up CEO and founder said:
“The Switch Up charity coffee is something we are very proud of and is only possible thanks to the continued support of 200 Degrees.
“It enables our message of positivity to spread further, raise awareness of the support required to help the city’s young people and garner more support for those who need it most.
“We are grateful to everyone at Lutterell Hall for showing support and choosing to stock the coffee in the upgraded lounge and bar, and we wish them all the best for the re-opening.”
Will Kenney, Commercial Director at 200 Degrees said: “We are delighted to see more businesses, such as Lutterell Hall, selecting Switch Up as their primary roast.
“It is a fantastic coffee that allows us to support the amazing work of the charity here in Nottingham, as well as make a difference to women farmers in Guatemala. We continue to be inspired by Marcellus and the Switch Up team. It is a privilege to partner with them as well as enabling other local Nottingham businesses to support the charity by serving Switch Up coffee.”
