Community Protection Warning issued after repeated graffiti incidents at skate park

Social media posts were investigated, a suspect identified who was then arrested and interviewed under caution.

A Community Protection Warning has been issued to an individual after repeated instances of graffiti at Lady Bay Skate Park.

Criminal damage at the site was initially reported to Rushcliffe Borough Council earlier this summer who then forwarded information to Nottinghamshire Police.

Social media posts were then investigated, a suspect identified who was then arrested and interviewed under caution.

The warning specifies that the individual should not be involved in causing graffiti, posting comments on social media featuring graffiti and should not promote any such acts where failure to comply can lead to a fixed penalty notice, court order or remedial action including paying any clean-up costs incurred.

The Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods Cllr Rob Inglis said: “Vandalism of any kind is unacceptable and the action taken here clearly shows it will not be tolerated.

“Graffiti can often be a blight on community facilities and we want to ensure residents and visitors of all ages can use and enjoy public areas, so this sends a strong message that we will do all we can to make those who commit such offences accountable.

“We’re pleased with this outcome and will work with partners to continue to look at ways to deter individuals from carrying out similar crime.

Residents should report instances of graffiti by using this form, by calling 0115 981 9911 or on the non-emergency police number, 101.
