A Hucknall couple have each been ordered to pay £1,255.52 after failing to clear waste from their garden despite being served with a Community Protection Notice.
The notice was issued in February after the accumulation of waste was found to be having a detrimental effect on people living nearby.
It required the occupiers to remove the waste, but the council said it remained in place, prompting its community safety team to take further enforcement action.
The case was considered at Derby Justice Centre in August through the Single Justice Procedure.
Both residents were fined £440 and ordered to pay £639.52 in costs and a £176 victim surcharge. The combined amount payable by the couple is £2,511.04.
The council said it initially seeks to support residents in arranging for waste to be removed before taking formal action.
However, it said enforcement could become necessary when an accumulation of waste was affecting neighbouring properties and residents’ quality of life.
