Couple threatened by boys in attempted Nottingham street robbery

Detectives investigating after a couple were threatened during an attempted street robbery have put a teenager before the courts.

Officers were called to Sussex Street, Nottingham, around 10 am on Sunday (11 February) after a man and a woman reported being approached by three boys.

The couple were threatened before they were able to walk away.

Officers arrived at the scene quickly and while carrying out inquiries a member of the public reported being verbally abused.

Eighteen-year-old Connor Atkin, of no fixed abode, was arrested the same day and has now been charged with attempted robbery and threatening behaviour in connection with the two incidents.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (13 February) and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 12 March.

Atkin has also been charged with assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage after a police officer was pushed and a police vehicle damaged.

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, were also arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and have been bailed while investigations continue.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“I hope people living and working in the city are reassured by the fast and efficient police response to this incident.

“We will always carry out a thorough investigation into any report of violent threats being made on our streets.”
