Banned driver sentenced after fourth drink-driving offence

A disqualified driver was again before the courts after police caught him drink-driving.
Officers were patrolling the Radford area of Nottingham when they spotted a vehicle linked to a banned driver on Wednesday last week (4 October).

They stopped the Jaguar X-Type in Radford Road and asked the driver for his details.

Nottingham Magistrates’ Court heard the driver gave a false name but the officers were not duped, with checks on police systems revealing his true identity.

The driver, Mariusz Stolarczyk, failed a roadside breathalyser and was subsequently arrested. He blew a reading of 50 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

The 49-year-old, of Isandula Road, New Basford, was subsequently charged with drink-driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

He pleaded guilty to all three offences and was jailed for 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months, when he was sentenced on Thursday (4 October).

The court heard it was the fourth time in 15 years that Stolarczyk had been caught drink-driving.

As such, he was further disqualified from driving for five years and ordered to undergo an alcohol treatment programme for six months.

He must also attend 15 rehabilitation activity days as well as pay a £154 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

PC Dan Bird, who spotted the Jaguar X-Type, said:

“Stolarczyk has an appalling history of driving offences and this latest case shows how he continues to show a complete lack of regard for any punishment imposed upon him by the courts system.

“By pulling him over once again and putting him before the courts, we may well have prevented the public coming to harm as a result of his recklessness and selfishness.
“There is simply no excuse for Stolarczyk’s actions and if he reoffends he faces going to prison.

“I hope this sends a strong message to everyone that if you drive whilst disqualified or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, we will pursue you.”
