Drugs seized after reports of disturbance in East Leake

Police detained a suspect and seized a quantity of cannabis after quickly responding to reports of a public order incident.

Officers were called to Osier Fields in East Leake after reports a man had made threats at an address in the street.

After gaining entry to the property on Wednesday afternoon (1 December 2021) officers swiftly arrested a suspect and discovered a number of cannabis plants, bags of cannabis and associated growing equipment.

A 56-year-old man was detained on suspicion of affray and production of cannabis. The plants and equipment have now been destroyed.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Rob Lawton, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I am pleased our swift response to this report led to a large amount of cannabis being seized and destroyed.

“The production and distribution of drugs has a detrimental impact on communities and ruins lives. It can also often be linked to more serious organised crime and violence.

“The force remains committed to doing everything it can to bring those involved in drug-related crime to justice as well as preventing harmful drugs from hitting the streets.

“Information from the public is vital in helping us crack down on drug crime and I’d urge anyone with any information about suspected drug-related activity in their community to get in touch with us. ”

If people spot something out of the ordinary in their area or have any concerns they are asked to report them to Nottinghamshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
