A new community park created by housebuilder Vistry Group has opened to the public in Edwalton.
The new park is part of the 1,500-home Edwalton Fields development off Melton Road.
It features a multi-use games area and play equipment for younger children, 50 allotments, a community orchard and a 33-space car park. Land has also been provided for a community building.
A shared footpath and cycleway runs through the park, linking the homes in the north to the existing subway under the A52 to the south. Around 12,000 trees are to be planted across the site.
An official launch event to celebrate the park’s opening was held on Saturday (6 April), with face painting, hot drinks, hot dogs and ice creams laid on for residents.
Among those in attendance to see the new facilities were representatives from the charity Brighter Futures Through Sport and members of the Edwalton Coaching Community, who provide support for local children with special needs. Plus Vistry North Central Midland’s regional sales and marketing director, Carina Wilde, Edwalton site manager, Mark Nussey, PA to the regional sales and marketing director, Chelsey Davison, and regional marketing manager, Freya Halsall.
Carina Wilde, sales and marketing director for Vistry North Central Midlands, said: “The new community park at Edwalton Fields will be a place where residents of all ages can come to relax and be close to nature.
“Being outdoors is key to a healthy lifestyle and we recognise how important it is to provide the opportunities for children to play and for adults to exercise right on their doorstep.
“It was great to be able to showcase the park to the community and to see members of the public enjoying the new facilities it has to offer.”
The new community park at Edwalton Fields is located to the west of the residential part of the development, where Vistry is building 750 homes within the wider scheme under its Bovis Homes and Linden Homes brands.
