EMR joins forces with The Veterans Charity to create commemoration for Armistice Day

East Midlands Railway (EMR) marks the occasion annually to remember fallen heroes with services of Remembrance at Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Lincoln railway stations on Armistice Day.

The Remembrance events will take place on Monday, 11 November, at 10:45 at Derby and Nottingham and at 14:00 at Sheffield and Lincoln.

Many other stations across EMR’s network will also be decorated with poppies and war poems, creating a touching and respectful atmosphere.

Earlier this year, EMR set up a Veterans Group, supported by the Inclusioneers Employee Network, to support ex-military personnel employees transitioning to civilian life and careers in the rail industry.

The group offers support and camaraderie, as well as representing a calendar of military events, including Routes of Remembrance. Tim Garbutt, Service Delivery Assurance Manager at EMR, is a reservist in the Royal Air Force Regiment. In a film created for EMR, he shares how the railway has supported him throughout this role.

To help raise vital funds for The Veterans Charity, EMR has created special ‘Routes of Remembrance’ lanyards and is selling these alongside ‘VC’ lapel pin badges for employees to wear. Will Rogers, Managing Director at East Midlands Railway, said: “Now in its fourth year, our communities across the East Midlands remember those who paid the ultimate price for their country, with our special Routes of Remembrance services.

“This initiative is especially meaningful to us, as many of our EMR colleagues have a proud background in the Armed Forces. This year, we set up the Veterans Group network for our employees to offer support if needed, and we are looking forward to welcoming many of them to a Remembrance service on Monday.”

Danny Greeno, CEO of The Veterans Charity, said: “The incredible role played by the railways in supporting our military, both in times of conflict and peace, is often overlooked.

“Routes of Remembrance is our way of honouring that support as well as the sacrifices made by those who have fallen as a result of conflict.

“We are very proud to have EMR’s fantastic and continued support across their network.”
