In the early hours of 23 September both appliances from Ashfield Fire Station responded to a house fire in Huthwaite.
A spokesperson said:
‘With the kind permission of the occupier, we’re sharing these photos to highlight an important safety message: always close your doors at night or when leaving the house.
‘The images show two sides of the same door:
• The inside, blackened and coated with smoke and toxic chemicals
• The outside, still clean and white
‘Because the door was closed, it held back the fire, heat, and smoke. This gave the family:
‘Time to escape
‘Clean air to breathe
‘Clear visibility to find their way out
‘They did exactly the right thing: got out, stayed out, and called 999.
‘You can also see wisps of black smoke escaping around the edges of the door – just enough to trigger the smoke alarms and alert the family.
‘If that door had been left open, this story could have had a very different ending.’
