Fire crews remain at the scene of a wildfire in Strawberry Hill in Rainworth today.
A large wildfire broke out at Strawberry Hill Heath in Rainworth on Saturday, 8 August, affecting around 36,000 square metres of woodland and undergrowth.
Eight fire engines were sent to the scene, supported by a high-volume pump, command support, a water carrier and a welfare unit. Crews remained at the site overnight and continued firefighting operations throughout Sunday.
Residents affected by smoke were advised to keep doors and windows closed, while members of the public were asked to avoid the area. The fire service also warned about the heightened risk of outdoor fires during the prolonged hot and dry conditions.
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service Southwell station said on Monday 10 August:
‘Not much rest for the crew last night as they were mobilised in the early house to the incident at Strawberry Hill.
‘The fire is very much deep seated so will take sometime to resolve.’
