First Red Route in Nottinghamshire outside the city in place in Rushcliffe

The first Red Route in Nottinghamshire outside the city is now in place around the Ratcliffe on Soar power station site.

Lines, signs and cameras covering the roundabouts and entrances to the power station site and East Midlands Parkway railway station have been installed.

The area was previously plagued by anti-social behaviour including illegal street racing, car cruising, litter and obstruction of the roundabouts, the red route which can be enforced by cameras prohibits drivers from stopping, loading, parking or otherwise being stationary in the area except in specific circumstances related to emergencies or accessing entrances to premises.

‘It is hoped that this engineering solution will prevent this area being used for dangerous and anti-social activity in future.

‘As part of Operation Wheelspin officers from across the force have been taking coordinated action against those who drive dangerously as part of car meets organised via social media this has included prosecution of drivers, seizure of vehicles and warnings being issued.

‘Rushcliffe has seen a reduction in calls from members of the public about dangerous driving, noise nuisance and highway obstruction as a result of this targeted enforcement.’
