Four vehicles seized in off-road operation in Nottinghamshire

Last week officers from Mansfield South Neighbourhood Policing team took part in a week of action targeting nuisance and illegal off road vehicles using the area of Mansfield locally known as The Desert.

As a result of the action four vehicles were seized, and a number of S59 warnings were issued meaning if the vehicles are caught again they will face seizure.

Police said:

‘Vehicles driving on The Desert cause significant nuisance destroying the natural landscape of the area which is a protected site, additionally a large number of the vehicles using the area are unregistered, unroadworthy, uninsured, untaxed and lack an MOT, despite this the offenders in large part use the roadways to access The Desert.

‘This puts innocent motorists and pedestrians at further risk and would leave them out of pocket in the event of a collision.

‘PC Twiddy and Chambers who are the local beat managers for the area stated: “These vehicles and the offenders driving them are a danger to both themselves and the public, we understand the distress these issues cause and will continue to utilise specialist police vehicles and tactics to eliminate the issue. ‘

If you have any information please get in touch via 101, the Nottinghamshire Police Website or Crimestoppers”.
