It’s that time of year again, and Gamston resident David Carter will be lighting up his home with a fantastic Christmas display to raise money for charity.
For the past 12 years, David has put on a mesmerisingly festive Christmas display outside his home to raise money for charity. This will be the 9th year in which he is raising money for the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre.
Santa Claus will perform the “Grand Switch-On”, which will take place on:
Sunday November 24th from 5pm
I wonder what transport he will use this year! You’ll have to come to find out.
Not only will there be the usual raffle with excellent prizes, but this year, brand new, there will also be an animated light show with sound-to-light and talking heads, along with a choir to entertain visitors and refreshments.
David says, “My display will be raising money for the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre, to which I am affiliated. All donations go towards helping to care for all the wonderful animals and the running of the centre, and they will be very much appreciated.
Bearing in mind the centre is independently funded and costs £800K to run annually, it receives no financial aid from the RSPCA National Society. Last year, I raised nearly £4,000. This year, I would like to exceed this amount, especially because, with the cost-of-living crisis, our costs have skyrocketed.”
David has had amazing feedback from visitors. He said, “I get asked constantly, ‘Are you doing it again this year?’ It is now expected that the display goes ahead, and it will be no different this Christmas.”
When asked why he does the display, he said, “I love doing it and get very excited to see the children’s faces light up, especially when they point at the different lights and effects.
It’s also amazing how the donations come in—some nights you hardly see anyone, and the amounts given really surprise you.”
Donations can be made by popping money into the red collection box outside the house, or you can simply text ‘RSPCALIGHTS 5’ to 70085 to donate £5, or text ‘RSPCALIGHTS 10’ to 70085 to donate £10. Alternatively, one can use the QR code on the notice board; this uses the Just Giving system and accommodates Gift Aid.
If you cannot make the 24th November Grand Switch-On, don’t worry! David’s Christmas display will be on daily from 4 pm – 9 pm until 1st January, and this year, for the first time, on New Year’s Eve until 1:00 am!
Every child attending receives a free lollipop.
David’s lights will be at his home at 4 Sandale Close, Gamston, Nottingham NG2 6QG.
