Halifax becomes the latest West Bridgford bank to close for good – along with Beeston branch

Halifax banks in West Bridgford and Beeston to close as part of an ongoing reduction of Lloyds Banking Group’s High Street network.

The group said 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax and 11 Bank of Scotland branches will shut between May 2026 and March 2027.

The West Bridgford and Beeston Halifax sites are among those affected.

The announcement follows an earlier closure programme already under way which will see a further 49 branches close by October.

Once all confirmed closures are completed, Lloyds Banking Group said it will have 610 branches remaining nationwide.

A spokesperson for Lloyds said customers now use a wider range of ways to manage their finances and increasingly choose digital services.

They said: “Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before.”

The bank said more than 21 million customers now use its mobile apps as their main way to bank.
The decision reflects a wider shift away from physical branches across the banking sector, driven by the growth of online and app-based banking and the ability to carry out many services remotely.

Earlier this month Santander announced plans to close a further 44 branches across the UK, putting 291 jobs at risk.

While most major banks continue to reduce branch numbers, Nationwide Building Society said late last year it intends to keep all 696 of its branches open until at least 2030.

Banking hubs — shared premises where multiple banks provide services — have begun to replace some closed branches in parts of the country, although new hubs are opening at a slower rate than individual branch closures.

In September 2022 HSBC in West Bridgford closed, and NatWest on Rectory Road closed on 24 June 2024. Santander in the town announced in March 2025 it will only be open for three days a week.
