Hickling Scarecrow Festival organisers have reassured visitors that roads will remain open for this weekend’s event following concerns about roadworks around the village.
The festival takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, with scarecrow displays, entertainment and activities across both days.
Organisers say they have received assurances from Via, which delivers highways services for Nottinghamshire County Council, that the works will not affect access during the festival weekend.
In a statement shared by the festival team, the works around Hickling were due to be completed by Tuesday 8 September.
Should completion be delayed, the highways statement says: “The contractor has been told emphatically not to rebook for the weekend.”
Organisers said: “Please don’t panic you can get to Hickling Scarecrow Festival this weekend.”
They added: “So we are ready to go.”
This year’s scarecrow theme is “H is for Hickling”, with visitors able to follow a trail of entries representing something beginning with H and associated with the village. Judging is due to take place on Sunday.
A dog show is planned for Saturday, followed by a Guide Dogs display on Sunday. Other attractions include street entertainment, a magician, military vehicles and vintage tractors. A Battle of Britain fly-past is planned for Sunday, subject to suitable weather conditions.
Visitors should use the designated car parks at the entrances to the village, with parking costing £5 per car and provision available for disabled visitors. Parking on streets and lanes within Hickling will not be permitted during the event.
Money raised will support CoppaFeel!, Maggie’s Nottingham and local village causes. Food, refreshments and stalls will be available throughout the weekend.
