Hickling Scarecrow Festival will return in September with two days of displays, entertainment, stalls and activities.
The popular village event will take place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September.
This year’s scarecrow theme is “H is for Hickling”, with every entry representing something beginning with the letter H and associated with the village.
Visitors will be able to follow the scarecrow trail throughout the weekend, with the mayor due to judge the entries on Sunday.
A dog show will take place on Saturday, followed by Guide Dogs demonstrations on Sunday. Organisers are also planning fly-pasts, with timings expected to be announced closer to the festival.
Street entertainment will include stilt walkers, a magician, clog dancers and live music. A display of vintage military vehicles is also planned, potentially including a half-track.
Stalls will be open on both days, offering attractions including hook-a-duck, face painting and candyfloss.
Cakes, samosas, tea and coffee will be available at Hickling Village Hall and the village church, alongside further food and activities.
Admission remains unchanged at £5 per car. Three designated car parks will be available on the edge of the village, including provision for disabled visitors.
There will be no on-street parking in Hickling during the event. Coaches are welcome, but operators are asked to contact the organisers in advance.
Money raised this year will support local village causes and two principal charities: CoppaFeel! and Maggie’s Nottingham.
CoppaFeel! works to educate and support young people in relation to breast cancer and encourages people to become familiar with checking their bodies.
Maggie’s Nottingham, based at Nottingham City Hospital, provides practical and emotional support for people with cancer and their families.
Last year’s nominated charity was Blood Bikes. Money raised through the festival helped the organisation purchase a new motorcycle, which was named “Hickling Scarecrow”.
