Over 200 visitors headed to an Edwalton care home at the weekend when it opened its doors to the community for a foodie festival.
The Edwalton FoodFest at Edwalton Manor Care Home, in Landmere Lane, has been hailed as a huge success, with stalls offering cuisine from around the globe.
Edwalton Manor resident June Benson, aged 92, said: “It was amazing. It seems that the whole community came to see us and enjoy this event, and it was a great success. We can’t wait for the next one!”
“It was a hot day, the food was incredible, and the company was wonderful.”
The food festival was held during Care Home Open Week, which is designed to showcase the work of care homes across the country.
Stalls served up a range of delicious cuisine from Sri Lanka, India, and China, as well as BBQ food and even a spud stall.
Entertainment was provided by a magician, the belly dancing group RAQS ASHAB, a range of singers and the Indian dance group Manushi Dance.
Wellbeing Coach Alice Kirkby said: “This was an incredibly popular event, and everyone had a great time. We will be getting ready to plan our next event, but I’m not sure how we will top this one.
“It was like our very own Glastonbury – but actually far more comfortable!”
